Founded in 2003, Whitewater High School is one of five high schools that are part of the Fayette County School System in Fayetteville, GA. Music has been an integral part of student’s lives at Whitewater High School from the moment they opened the doors with quality band, choral, and orchestral programs. Choirs at WHS have consistently received Superior Ratings in Performance and Sight-Singing at the Georgia Music Educators Large Group Performance Evaluation. They have been recognized as an exemplary choral program with invitations to perform locally as well as other cities in the United States and Internationally. Most recently, this choral program performed Faure Requiem in Rome and Florence, Italy under the direction of Dr. John Dixon; and music of Jake Runestad at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Dr. Anton Armstrong. Auditioned ensembles have also had the opportunity to perform with or visit many Colleges and Universities throughout the Southeast.
Students in the WHS Choral Program have been selected to participate in GMEA All State Chorus, GMEA District Honor Chorus, and the Governor's Honors Program. Spivey Hall Honor Chorus, and other honor choirs throughout the state of Georgia. Many WHS Chorus Alumni have gone on to perform in collegiate programs throughout the nation. Some of these former students are now Music Educators or performing professionally.
Meet the Director
Director of Choirs
Richard Prouty was appointed the Director of Choirs at Whitewater High School in 2012 where he conducts Chorale, Chorale Women, Camerata, Jubilate, and Whitewater Singers. He is also certified to teach Advanced Placement Music Theory. Prior to his appointment at WHS, Mr. Prouty was at Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, GA (2003 - 2012) and Campbell High School in Smyrna, GA (2001 - 2003). He is an active member of Georgia Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Educators, and American Choral Directors Association. Mr. Prouty has served in various leadership positions to include GMEA District Chair, GMEA Vice President for Performance Evaluation, and Department Chair. He currently serves as the Literary Coach and PBIS Coach at Whitewater High School. He holds a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of West Georgia and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Georgia Southern University. Mr. Prouty’s singing experience as a tenor is with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Coro Vocati, and Southern Crescent Chorale. He has prepared the music for various musicals throughout his career. He currently resides in Sharpsburg, GA with his wife Heather and their son Whit (11) and daughter Charlie (3).
Choirs at Whitewater High School range from beginning to mastery level. This is a year-long course that explores choral music from a wide variety of cultures and time periods through study and performance. The core curriculum emphasizes the basics of vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, and music history. WHS chorus students will have the opportunity to tour domestically and internationally at least once while they are in high school. Students who are in choir not only learn how to be exemplary musicians but will also learn some very important life skills such as teamwork, dependability, and perseverance that will help with their success in any of their future endeavors.

The Whitewater Choral Program has a student-led Choral Council, with elected officers and representatives from all advanced ensembles. The Choral Council works in concert with the Program Director and the WHS Chorus Boosters to support all activities of the program.
